Crusty Crab, no relation to Mr. Krabs or Krabyy Patties


Crusty proves a hard nut to crack. Aquarist Becs Smith with Crusty the edible crab. The crab also has the ability to snap pencils in half. A giant crab which was caught in waters off Cornwall is proving to be a cracking draw for visitors.

Crusty the half-metre edible crab, thought to be about 20-years-old, was pulled up in a crab pot off the Lizard.

In the wild, edible crabs use their giant claws to fight with other crabs and crush shellfish. He was taken to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, where he is now amazing visitors with his ability to crack walnuts with his fist-sized claws. They wanted to demonstrate how powerful Crusty's claws were.

The edible crab is the largest species in Britain.
