Bedbug Infestation in NYC

Sing to the tune of The Star Spangled Banner:
Oh say can you see,
any bedbugs on me.
If you do,
take a few
'cause I got them from you
Last year the New York City logged 377 bedbug violations, up from just 2 in 2002 and 16 in 2003. The bedbug resurgence has been blamed on increased immigration from the developing world, the advent of cheap international travel and the recent banning of powerful pesticides. Other culprits include the recycled mattress industry and those thrifty New Yorkers who revel in the discovery of a free sofa on the sidewalk.

And that new mattress delivered from a reputable department store, which kindly hauled away your old one? It may have spent all day in a truck wedged against an old mattress collected from a customer with a bedbug problem.

Check out these photos posted by New Yorks finest bedbug freedom fighters. Thank you for posting these photos and sharing your stories. Latrippi's close up of bedbug stained pillow and

The True Tree of Christmas: Wishes Come True Tree

I hope Santa isn't confused where to put my presents. I want them under my "Wishes Come True Tree" that sparkles and tinkles like sleigh bells, oops, I mean happy bells. Sears sent this catalog disguised as a childrens book complete with coupons. Read the more about it here.

Oh what wishes will come true under the True Tree?

Face of Freedom: Rosa Parks

An ordinary woman, performing an ordinary task, helps to make this country great. She did it on her own without cameras, press releases or the media.

A moral woman violating an immoral law using moral means.

Freedom Fighter.
